Chapter eleven

NYX

Iwoke up this morning feeling hungover. I only had the one glass of wine, so I’m sure it was the crying all over Ozul in his pussycat form that did it. Another feeling of embarrassment washes over me as I remember everything that happened last night. Telling myself to get over it I remember that I did feel comforted and try to hang onto that feeling as best as I can. These are my mates. While I do not feel that connection yet, they do. Yes, I set some boundaries yesterday, but I also need to remember that they are feeling things that I can’t right now because they feel the bond and I do not.

Sorcha is still sleeping as I head to the shower. I turn the water on scalding hot as always and wash and then dry myself. Dressing in my standard tank, leggings, and hoodie, I return to the bedroom. Afterward I reach over and wake Sorcha. “Hey sleepyhead. Get up and shower and then come back here so we can talk for a second.”

“Nyx, I have known you my entire life, you think I don’t know what you’re about to say? You have to leave me behind. I already figured that part out. I get it. Do I like it? Fuck no! But there’s shit-all I can do about it. This isn’t my journey. I talked to Sean after you went to the porch last night. I’m going to take your car to the cabin and meet him there. Maybe I can’t go with you, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t help you from here.”

She reaches out and draws me close. We are both crying and holding each other. Just rocking. How do you tell your best friend goodbye? Especially when you don’t even know if you will ever be able to return? There are so many unknowns here. Will she even be safe? I know Sean won’t let anything happen to her, but I thought the same thing about Roarke. I can’t lose her too.

“Sorcha, I don’t know what will happen over there, but I swear to all the gods that if I can come back to you I will. Please, please, be safe. Stay with Sean at all times until I tell you otherwise.”

“I will. I promise. It won’t just be him either. Some of his and Roarke’s people will be there too. He has formed a crew to help track these people down. So I will have more than just Sean keeping me safe. It’s gonna be awkward as fuck in a house with five men but I guess I can always ask you for some pointers when I see you again,” she says cackling. She rolls herself out of the bed still laughing as she walks to the closet to get her clothes.

“Bitch, that shit is not even funny. What the fuck am I supposed to do with four men Sorch? I can’t even with you right now. Get your ass in the shower so we can eat.
